    In an effort to promote new development in Cheney’s vacant Commerce and Industrial Park, the City Council unanimously approved a resolution changing the structure of utility connection charges for businesses who might be interested in locating to the park inside the city’s southwest limits.     Buoyed by one of the largest first-year classes in school history, Eastern Washington University’s fall enrollment has set a record for the sixth consecutive year. The overall headcount for the fall 2014 quarter, which includes all students who take classes at every level at Eastern, jumped by 662 students to 13,453.   • Airway Heights receives loan and grant for steel expansions

    The city of Airway Heights received a $363,600 loan and a $175,000 grant to go toward the construction of a new 60,000 square foot facility, a half-mile of rail siding and a roadway to support the expansion of Seaport Steel and Brown-Strauss Steel. In August, the city of Airway Heights passed a resolution to submit an application for the grant. The city will pay $187,000 to match the grant and loan.     The Spokane County Treasurer’s Office is reminding county taxpayers that second half property taxes are due by Oct. 31 per Washington State law.     At its Oct. 7 meeting, the Medical Lake City Council approved a joint-interlocal agreement with Spokane County and the city of Spokane for solid waste services.
