Spokane County Fire District 3, Medical Lake Fire Department, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office and American Medical Response responded to a structure fire on South Salnave Road, outside of Medical Lake. According to Spokane County District 3 Fire Chief Bruce Holloway, the blaze destroyed a trailer and burned one room of an attached garage before firefighters put it out. Cheney residents traveling State Route 904 should expect delays and slower than usual traffic as resurfacing work on the four-mile stretch between Betz Road and Interstate 90 kicks off Monday, June 16. The $872,473 project was awarded to Inland Asphalt Company of Spokane. The project will consist of grinding down the pavement and then resurfacing with a hot asphalt mix. Video surveillance footage helped Cheney Police Department investigators track down a pair of individuals who forged checks using a city of Cheney routing number. Department Cmdr. Rick Campbell said they received a report May 7 from City Hall that individuals had attempted to cash two checks totaling $750 at the Wal-Mart in Airway Heights. One passed while the other did not. Tim Ames was sitting at dinner when he learned he would be the new superintendent of Medical Lake School District. Medical Lake has been meeting with the city of Spokane to hook up an intertie to a water main as an emergency source of water for the summer. The water main, owned by Spokane, is located on SR 902 less than 500 feet from one of the four wells Medical Lake draws its water. The second annual Chase Strides for SNAP 5K Run is taking place Sunday, June 22, at Plantes Ferry State Park in Spokane Valley.
