  • Cardinals Noah Ray qualifies for state tennis

    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated May 25, 2017

The Northeast A League’s Most Valuable singles player will get a chance to see how that honor plays out on the state stage. Medical Lake’s Noah Ray earned that right last Saturday when the Cardinals’ senior finished second in the 1A/1B/2B regionals played at Mead High School. Ray lost to his recent NEA nemesis, Joel Cladera-Garcia of Riverside, 1-6, 1-6, who beat him in district play as well. Ray will be joined by the doubles teams of Trevor Nilles and Daniel Miller, as well...

    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated May 25, 2017

Familiarity with the course paid off for Medical Lake in the District 7 golf championships last week. Having played at Chewelah in both sub-districts, and in an invitational where they scored a rare victory, the Cardinals were able to advance a pair of golfers to state. Sophomore Logan Dianda and junior Brendan Petro, along with alternate Michael O’Brien, were competing this past week in the 1A boys tournament at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco. Dianda shot rounds of 95 a...

  • Cardinals send another strong group to 1A track

    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated May 25, 2017

Medical Lake emerged from their outing to the District 7 track and field championships at Riverside High School last week just about how their coach figured - with one notable exception. The Cardinals will once again send a strong contingent to the state 1A/1B/2B championships today through Saturday at Eastern Washington University's Roos Field, minus distance ace, junior Mason Williams. "He was in the 16(00) pretty close but just couldn't hold," Blankenship said. Williams...

  • It's a great time for fresh beginnings with American Legion Baseball

    PAUL DELANEY, de|Updated May 25, 2017

It’s spring — or so the calendar says — and time for fresh beginnings. Count that as the guiding light for Medical Lake’s American Legion baseball team which started their season, elevated back to AA play in the National Division, this past Tuesday. There’s need to refocus after they closed out 2016 with a decidedly sour taste in their collective craws in a season of single-A play. As described last summer in this column space, a very-much overachieving crew from Medical L...

Cheney rallied in the sixth inning for an eventual 15-13 win, marking the second year in a row they've denied the Millwood school th...
