Fairchild trains for shooter

FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE — Base officials and employees participated in an active-shooter response exercise April 11.

Personnel and visitors saw first responders conducting emergency procedures, heard sirens and loud noises emanating from the exercise area and saw vehicles racing to an “emergency.”

The exercise did not impact on-base services, such as medical appointments or exchange and commissary operations, officials said.

Council OKs fire contract

CHENEY — The City Council has unanimously approved a three-year service contract between the Fire Department and Western States.

The contract involves getting yearly maintenance checkups to the Fire Department Service Generator.

Fire Chief Tom Jenkins said the agreement would save the city money.

“It’s only $400 per year, $1200 for three years,” he said.

IRS offers fire victims time

MEDICAL LAKE — The IRS is giving victims of the Gray Fire more time to file their 2023 tax returns.

Some residents with fire damages now have until June 17 to file, without a penalty.

The IRS extends tax deadlines for areas designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which includes Spokane this year.

Sprague sets yard sale date

SPRAGUE — The Sprague Chamber of Commerce has set June 1 as the date for this year’s Community Yard Sale.

Participants can have their location put on a yard sale map to be given out to propsective shoppers.

The chamber is also hoping to host a parade that day for graduating Sprague High School seniors.

The chamber hopes the event will turn into a mini “Sprague Days.”
