Cardinals top Pirates

SPOKANE - Medical Lake got the opportunity to play on the big new stage April 8 at ONE Spokane Stadium scoring a 3-2 victory over 2A Rogers.

Kaden Rudy sandwiched a pair of goals around a Mavrick Rasmussen single for the Cardinals, who went up 3-1. They held off the Pirates who scored with six minutes to play.

"The stadium was awesome, and the locker room facility was great," assistant coach Dan Collins said. "What a great opportunity for our team."

Medical Lake (2-3 NEA, 5-5 overall) returned to Northeast A League play vs. Riverside, April 11 at 4 p.m. and travel April 13 to Colville.

Cheney boys

In other soccer April 8, the Cheney boys returned to play following spring break with a 4-2 non-league loss to Moses Lake.

The Blackhawks trailed 2-0 in the first half before Sam Woller and James Guske tied it. The Mavericks scored the final two goals in the second half.

"It was tough coming off from spring break, but it is good to 'shake the rust,'" head coach Noah Prophet wrote in an email.

Cheney (2-2 GSL, 5-5 overall) resumed Greater Spokane League play April 10 at Mead trying to snap a three-game losing streak. They host Central Valley at 4 p.m. April 12.
