Nine Blackhawks reach regionals

SPOKANE - Cheney advanced nine wrestlers to the next stop on the road to Mat Classic, including two individual champions, from the Greater Spokane League 3A tournament at the Spokane Convention Center, on Feb. 2-3.

Mason Bennett was a champion at 144 pounds and Trenton Moore won at 175 as the Blackhawks finished fourth as a team behind Mead, University and Mount Spokane.

That pair, as well as Camron Bogle (132-pounds/3rd), Wyatt Wells (175/4th), Gauge Seubert (190/4th), Aiden Carr (120/5th). Shadrach Mason (150/5th), Macade Munro (215/5th) and Jacob Estock (144/6th) - along with alternate Kaden Rasmussen (138) - will all compete Feb. 9-10 in the 3A regionals at University High.

Bennett improved to 30-13 on the season claiming a 15-11 decision over Tyson Ramsey of Ridgeline, the third-place finisher at state in 2023.

"This is the best match I've ever seen Mason wrestle," Coach Brian Skaff said. "He kept the pressure on the whole match and had confidence in his technique and his conditioning."

Moore (37-10) pinn ed Mead's Logan Ullah in 5:01.

"Trenton just keep wrestling like a veteran," Skaff said.

At 132, Bogle opened with a forfeit and a fall before losing to Caleb Burbank of University by a fall.

He got to the third-place bout with a win over U-Hi's Quinton O'Bannon and then took out Mead's Nolan Lofstedt by a fall in 4:32.

In competition at University the Top 5 placers move on to the state Mat Classic championships in the Tacoma Dome on Feb. 16-17.
