Goertz receives Department of Health award

MEDICAL LAKE - Deep Creek Ranchette Water Association President Jerry Goertz has been awarded the 2021 Commitment to Excellence award for his work by the Washington state Department of Health. According to a news release, the award is in conjunction with national and state Drinking Water Week 2021, which runs May 2 – 8, and is meant to "recognize individual water systems and operators that do an outstanding job providing safe and reliable drinking water to their customers."

Department of Health officials said award winners are nominated by their peers, customers, stakeholders or others in the industry. Goertz has been Deep Creek Ranchette Water Association president for over 10 years and continually strives to improve and update the water system.

According to the release, he established an annual preventative maintenance program and created a water conservation program to lower water usage by two million gallons a year. He works with local, county, state and federal officials concerning the PFAS/PFOA contamination from nearby Fairchild Air Force Base and has brought the system onto social media to keep in touch with water association members.

"This is a huge honor for our small community water system to be recognized by Washington State this year," Goertz said in the release. "This was a team effort by all of the DCRWA board members who strive to continue to provide clean, safe and reliable drinking water."
