Technology should not be a replacement for thinking and personal communication

Letter to the Editor

I greatly appreciate the coverage that The Cheney Free Press gives each week for activities in churches here in the West Plains area. I wish more churches would participate so that we all can get to know them better.

Most newspapers used to have a dedicated church or faith and values page with lots of information but this has been largely discontinued. In the past couple of decades, God has been systematically shut out of most public venues and our rising generations are becoming increasingly secular. They look to technology in some form to provide answers to life’s issues.

Some time back, an article appeared in a leading news magazine stating that within another 25 years or so ALL human problems would be resolved through technology. Multitudes are being subtly controlled by software on their smart phones which creates an addiction to them. Everywhere one goes people are glued to these devices. Face to face conversations are decreasing rapidly.

I find all of this very troubling and do everything in my personal life to encouraging thinking and personal communication. I invite others to join me in doing this.
