A cold-shooting third quarter doomed the Cheney High School girls basketball team’s chances of advancing in the District 7 playoffs last Wednesday at West Valley.
After taking a 24-18 lead into the locker room at halftime, the Lady Blackhawks had trouble finding the bottom of the net coming out of the break. Cheney was outscored 17-5 by the Eagles in the frame, and eventually fell 48-40 in the first-round, loser-out contest.
Senior forward Hailee Huff was the only Lady Blackhawk in double-digit scoring with 10 points. Aija Loffredi had seven, with senior Brette Draper and junior Haley Pemberton each adding six.
Cheney finishes the season at 3-9 in Great Northern League play and 7-14 overall. It was the final high school basketball game for Huff, Draper and fellow seniors Hannah Lemelin and Elizabeth Potter.
