Medical Lake boys' tennis in tight NEA matches

Medical Lake’s boys’ tennis team had a busy week, but maybe not as productive as they wanted following nailing down one-win and two losses in Northeast A League play last week.

In a scrambled schedule due to multiple changes, the Cardinals lost to Freeman 3-2 on April 18 at home, beat the Scotties the following day, also 3-2 but on the road, before losing 3-2 at home to Riverside, April 20.

Justin Lohr and Daniel Miller at No. 2 doubles, along with No. 1 singles, Noah Ray, won matches in the Freeman loss. “We struggled to string together enough points to finalize a win,” co-head coach Dawn Eliassen said.

Ray, No. 1 doubles Trevor Nilles and Folke Schroder-Frykhammer and No. 3 doubles duo of Ethan Brown and Caleb Snow collected victories in the return match with Freeman. “After coming off the loss to Freeman the day before, our boys came out firing on all cylinders,” Eliassen said.

The Nilles/Schroder-Frykhammer pairing, as well as Nathan McShane and Snow, a new No. 3 doubles team, won for Medical Lake against Riverside.

“We learned a lot in this match about what works and what doesn’t,” Eliassen said. “We will carry this into next week.”

Medical Lake is 5-2 in NEA play as the schedule reaches the halfway point. They had a pair of matches, at Deer Park, April 25 and Riverside, April 26, before heading to the Inland Empire Tournament this weekend. An April 20 contest against Chewelah was rained out and so far, not rescheduled.
