Cheney Storm hit Las Vegas

The Cheney Storm girls U17 soccer team hit the road for their first national level tournament, traveling to Las Vegas Feb. 17–19 to take part in the 2017 City of Las Vegas Mayor's Cup International Youth Showcase.

Cheney's Chapman Auto Group was comprised of 24 teams from all over the U.S. Coach Brian Jody said they lost their first match to Texas' AYSES, 3-1. Texas eventually went on to the finals and lost on penalty kicks.

The Storm won their second match versus Illinois' Lyons Union Showcase team 1-0, but missed the quarterfinals after a tie with a Utah Avalanche team in their third game.

"It was a great tie as they came from behind after an own goal and 0-2 deficit, but fell just short," Jody said in an email. "Had they won that match, instead of tied, they would have advanced to the quarterfinals."

Cheney lost 2-0 in a consolation match to the Indy Premier from Indiana.
