Time for individuals to shine in ML wrestling

There was a different plan heading into Medical Lake’s final Northeast A League dual meet against Riverside on Jan. 26.

Where the team aspect of things was the focus in previous matches, this one, a 39-34 loss to the Rams, emphasized the individual, head coach Josh Edmondson said. District seeding was on the line.

“Usually on other matches I move guys around and I sacrifice some weight,” he said.

Starting off in their usual hole when the match opened with the upper weights and a forfeit at 220 pounds, followed by a Rams’ pin at 106, Medical Lake got a string of wins.

Weston Thomas (113) pinned his opponent in just 45 seconds. Keagan Potter got a pin at 120 but took 3 minutes, 30 seconds and Bodhi Forbes (126) won by forfeit.

Braden Wirth scored an 11-3 major decision. Chris Hurt-Moran got a pin for his victory at 170 and Izaiah Schlosser also pinned his opponent at 195 pounds in speedy fashion, taking just 40 seconds.

Now comes the individual side of the sport, Edmondson told his team with district competition ahead on Saturday at Freeman.
