Armando Munguia, Jason Clerget and Brandon Schinzel, owners of The Basement, decided to close the bar after several fights and a cocaine possession charge happened in the same night.

A 48-year-old Cheney man was arrested after he exposed himself to three employees at the Airway Heights Starbucks.

Medical Lake School District was taking necessary precautions in managing its temporary fuel station at the district bus garage. Clearance to establish a permanent system was taking longer than previously expected as the city was requesting more measures to be fulfilled under the state environmental policy laws.

Feb. 6, 1997

The citizens' committee presented a facility improvement plan to the Cheney School District. The draft plan called for $39 million in bond issues over a six-year period. The $39 million would go towards the modernization of the district's elementary schools and middle school.

John Johnson, Eastern Washington University's athletics director, accepted a similar job at Weber State.

The Medical Lake Cardinals finished their dominating regular season in wrestling with a 39-33 victory at Cheney, pushing their overall record to 13-1-1.

Feb. 5, 1987

A Cheney police officer was planning on going back to school in the fall to teach sixth-graders how to say no to drugs as part of a project by the Police Department and the Cheney School District.

The Medical Lake School Board accepted the resignation of Jim McClelland, director of special services for the district.

The annual rivalry dual between Cheney and Deer Park wrestling teams did not come down to the final match to decide a winner, but it was close. A victory at 190 pounds by Ricker Robertson gave Cheney the win and the Frontier League Championship.

Feb. 10, 1977

At Medical Lake's City Council meeting, Councilman Bob Quiling, chairman of the Park and Recreation Committee, recommended the mayor and council appoint Jim Johnson for the position of Park and Recreation Director.

Monty Foster, the Department of Social and Health Services hearing examiner said his decision on whether the 505 Second St. Cheney Care Center would lose its license to operate would be made known to its attorney, Merritt Johnson, and the facility's administrator in 30 days.

Citizens from the Medical Lake area traveled to Olympia to present lawmakers a petition and to offer testimony against a proposal to build a mini-prison near Medical Lake.

Feb. 9, 1967

Dave Eychancer, business instructor at Eastern Washington State College, was named "Jaycee of the Month" for his work in January.

Work began to destroy the more-than-100 year old barn that was recently purchased; the site would see construction of a self-service Owl Drug Store.
