Big Sky soccer tournament moves to Eastern

Turns out there was some good soccer news last Friday for Eastern Washington.

Prior to their 3-2 overtime loss to Montana at the EWU soccer field, the Big Sky Conference announced that the 2016 Big Sky soccer championships would be played at Eastern. The torunament was scheduled to take place Wednesday, Nov. 2 through Sunday, Nov. 6.

The University of Idaho won the Big Sky regular season title, and the right to host the tournament, but due to poor field conditions the Vandals opted to host the event in Cheney.

The loss to the Grizzlies, EWU’s third defeat in four outings to close the regular season, dropped them to the No. 5 seed in the tournament where they faced who else but Montana in the opening day of play Nov. 2. A win would send Eastern into the semifinals Friday, Nov. 4 against No. 1 seed, Idaho at 1 p.m.

In a separate announcement on Nov. 1, EWU junior Chloe Williams made more history being named the Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Year for a second-straight season. She also became the school’s first-ever Big Sky Golden Boot Award winner after scoring a conference-best 14 goals this season.
