Cheney council OKs new website proposal

The city of Cheney will soon have a new, updated website — one that is all their own.

At its Aug. 23 meeting, the City Council approved a $29,454, one-year contract with CivicPlus to design, implement and host a new website. The contract also has a 10 percent contingency on top of the price, and after the site is established there is an $8,494 annual hosting fee.

Finance Director Cindy Niemeier said 20 bids were received for the project, with a committee evaluating the best out of the top seven. All of the members independently chose CivicPlus, she added.

The new website will be more user friendly and possess mobile capabilities, making it easier to access from Smartphones. After the site is up and running, which could be by the end of the year, the city will pay CivicPlus to host the site, but will own the page and its contents, something it doesn’t do with its current site.

“We’ll have better access and better service for our citizens,” Niemeier said.
