'Pints4Paws' seeks to raise funds for SpokAnimal

New Boundary’s 5K run will feature both human and canine entrants

Cheney’s New Boundary Brewing Co. wants to connect runners, beer lovers and friends of animals in a fundraising event for SpokAnimal.

The Sunday, May 22 ,“Pints 4 Paws Benefit 5K” has been in the works for awhile, spokesperson and brewery co-owner Melanie Noblin said in a news release. “We have been wanting to do one ever since starting the brewery.”

Rescue dogs are close to Noblin’s heart, so running with SpokAnimal just made sense to combine the two.

SpokAnimal seemed to be the most responsive and able to come represent themselves at the event, Noblin said. They will receive a portion of the entry proceeds which will be determined based on the number of entrants.  The organizations plans to bring out adoptable dogs and have a booth with a nameplate engraving machine and other information for the public.

“The event is slated to start at 11 a.m., but we will not actually start the jog until 11:30 to allow for late registrants,” Noblin said. “There will be person and dog water stations all along the route which will run from behind the brewery, down Cheney-Spokane Road to the Fish Lake Trail and back again.

Dogs must be vaccinated and well behaved for the safety of all, of course, Noblin added.

“I knew Airway Heights had a ‘Dog Jog,’ and thought it could work in Cheney,” Noblin explained. “Plus we love bringing people in from Spokane and outlying areas to show them what a great area and community we have here.”

The initial plan was to run the race May 21, but there is the Tour De Cure that will be using the same route.

A fun twist is that the “Pints4Paws” run is not doing T-shirts, but having special limited edition stainless steel cups made with the logo on them.

“If successful we will make it a yearly event,” Noblin said. That will depend both on the number of entrants, as well as the ability to attract sponsors for goodie bags.

After the event, The Hungry Hound barbecue food truck will be supplying a complimentary hot dog lunch to registered runners. They may also have additional food truck fare for sale. The brewery will also be open from 11 a.m.– 4 p.m.

Pre-registration ends May 8, two weeks before the event. But those interested can still register after but they are not guaranteed a commemorative cup because they need to be ordered in advance.
