Cheney Fire Department, EWU fields benefit from pool's draining

A perfect set of circumstances last week allowed Eastern Washington University to get necessary work done on its swimming pool, help the Cheney Fire Department with some training and get some fields much sought after water in the current drought conditions.

"We have a pipe failure going on underneath and we're going to have to replace that," David Early, director of recreation facilities at EWU, said. To prepare for the pipe replacement the swimming pool had to be drained.

Early began to consider how the water might not go down the drain and he came up with a plan to let the Fire Department do...
