Cheney Storm FC U14 have successful road trip

Go undefeated at 6-0-2 in 10-day trip in U.S., Canada

The Cheney Storm FC U14 Premier League girls soccer team hit the road for a 10-day trip that included tournaments in Seattle and Cranbrook, British Columbia together with a little soccer development sightseeing.

The Storm went 6-0-2 in games, beginning with the Starfire Sports 2015 Spring Classic in Seattle. The Storm actually played at the U15 level, going 1-0-2 in pool play June 12-14.

Cheney opened with back-to-back 1-1 ties to Chilliwack FC (Football Club) and Lake Washington Profession FC White Piranhas before breaking into the win column with a 4-0 win over Mount Rainer FC G00 Blue. The Storm finished second in Group A with 18 points; four points back of pool champion White Piranhas, 2-0-1.

Cheney head coach Brian Jody then chartered a bus and the team headed to Vancouver, British Columbia where they watched the U.S. women's team knock off Nigeria 1-0 in World Cup group play June 15. From there the team headed to Penticton, British Columbia, for an international friendly match with a Pinnacle FC squad, earning a 2-0 win against the hosts.

The Storm wrapped up their trip at the Sam Steele Youth Soccer tournament, June 21-22 at Moir Park in Cranbrook. Cheney blitzed its way through Group A play, downing the Kootenay Rovers, 6-0, and the Creston Blitz, 7-0, to win the group on Saturday and advance to championship competition in the U14 division.

In championship play Sunday, the Storm downed Group B second-place Kootenay South Youth Soccer Association Storm 5-1 to earn a spot in the title match where they knocked off MUSC Magic 6-1 to earn gold. Overall, the Storm outscored their opponents 32-4 in their eight road games in Seattle and Canada.

"It was a tremendous success for a small group from Cheney," Jody said.

Also competing in the Starfire Sports Spring Classic in Seattle was the Cheney Storm FC U13 team. The Storm lost their first game on Saturday, 2-0 to the FSCS Nemesis White, and followed that with a 2-2 tie against Chilliwack.

Cheney finished the tournament Sunday with a close 3-2 loss to CWSC Navy in pool play.
