A 14-year-old Medical Lake High School student was arrested for bringing a 9mm handgun to school.

Residents reported the new Fox Ridge housing development in Medical Lake was experiencing problems with both water pressure and excess stormwater.

The Cheney Blackhawks used five turnovers, including a pair of interception returns for touchdowns by Brian Proctor and Kenny Gainey, for a 33-19 Greater Spokane League football win over the Rogers Pirates at Joe Albi Stadium in Spokane.

Oct. 13, 1994

The Cheney Free Press announced that they would publish a Medical Lake-specific newspaper called the Register. "We're excited to be able to bring Medical Lake its own newspaper," Free Press publisher Bill Ifft said.

Fairchild Air Force Base announced it was sending an additional 10 aircraft and 15 aircrews from its 92nd Air Refueling Wing to bases in the Middle East to support Operation Southern Watch.

The Cheney Blackhawks won their Frontier League football opener 33-14 over East Valley as Levi Luhn scored twice while Mario Chodorowski, Chad Randall and Abdul Odood also added touchdowns.

Oct. 11, 1984

Holly Sonneland, the vice chair of EWU's board of trustees, spoke against a merger with Washington State University, noting that "Merging two institutions that do not want to be merged will simply move existing turf conflicts to a different and untried processes."

Worden Winery, located along Interstate 90, celebrated its second annual grape stomping. Wine production increased 73 percent in the state over the previous year.

The Cheney Blackhawks made it two wins in a row over East Valley following their 26-6 Frontier League victory. Running back Mike Spring led the Cheney ground game with 156 yards on 19 carries, scoring twice.

Oct. 17, 1974

The Cheney School Board authorized placing a $3.5 million bond issue on the Nov. 26 special election ballot that would finance construction of a new middle school.

With revenues expected to drop by just over 12 percent, department heads in the city of Cheney were told to freeze additional spending.

The Cheney Blackhawks eased past Clarkston 12-8 to even their Frontier League football record at 1-1. Randy Cameron scored the first Cheney touchdown and Rick Mount the second on a fumble recovery and return.

Oct. 16, 1964

Fire leveled Minnick's Grocery in Medical Lake and damaged both Lucky's and the Wagon Wheel taverns located on either side of the store.

Candidate for Washington state governor, Dan Evans, visited Cheney and spoke at City Hall.

The winless Cheney Blackhawks hoped to rebound from a 32-0 thrashing at the hands of the Colville Indians by hosting a Northeast A League football game with Chewelah.
