The Cheney girls’ tennis team ended a short week with a victory over the North Central Indians, 26, making their dual record 3-0.

Katlynn Smedley (No. 1 singles) kept her undefeated streak alive after she defeated NC’s Katie Dominguez 6-0, 6-0. She is now 3-0 in match play.

Grace Pohl (No. 2 singles) picked up her first win of the season after she defeated the Indians’ Abby Colestock, 6-1, 6-1.

Sarah Fillmore (No. 3 singles) picked up an impressive victory after she beat NC’s Elizabeth Bailey, 6-2, 6-0.

In her season debut for the Blackhawks, Aileen Sigua (No. 4 singles) defeated the Indians’ Taylor Cassan, 7-6 (10-8), 6-2, in a match where the first set lasted over an hour.

In doubles action, Leanna Eik and Ashley Seiler (No. 1) defeated NC’s Adrianna Sosa and McKenzie Elliot 6-2, 6-3. The teams of Elica Starr and Kaitlyn Sweeney (No. 2 doubles) and Sadie Knutson and Shayla Paine (No. 3 doubles) also picked up victories.

Head coach Jason Overland said the singles players stuck to their game plan while the doubles teams communicated “very well and seemed to understand their assignments with each new match.”

The Blackhawks were scheduled to play West Valley, March 27, in a GNL dual. That match is rescheduled for April 3.

Before the match against West Valley, Cheney played Lakeside, April 1, and will face Rogers, April 4. Results from those matches will be in the April 10 issue of the Cheney Free Press.
