Muriel May (Stanton) Resen

Muriel May (Stanton) Resen, 76, of Cheney, Wash., passed away July 27, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.

A Memorial service will be held on Sept. 7, at Cheney Church of the Nazarene, 338 Betz Road, Cheney at 11 a.m.

Muriel was born in Granite Falls, Wash. to William Gleason and Muriel Stanton on May 22, 1937. She went to high school at Granite Falls High School and graduated in 1955. She went on to earn a masters degree in education from Eastern Washington University and taught first-grade students for over 20 years in Airway Heights and Cheney.

She loved spending time with her three boys and went everywhere with her husband Eddie. She enjoyed the outdoors and fished in amazing places all over the West Coast and enjoyed hunting pheasants with Eddie. Muriel tirelessly supported Cheney schools’ sporting programs and was awarded by the Cheney School District for her many efforts.

Muriel is preceded in death by her parents, William Gleason and Muriel, one brother, William (Bill) and a sister, Elinor.

Muriel is survived by two sisters, her twin sister, Myrtle Gradin of Boring, Ore. and Norma George of Fort Worth, Texas; brothers Wayne Stanton and Gerald Stanton of Granite Falls and three sons Steve Maw of Kettle Falls, Wash., Brian Maw of Norwalk, Conn. and Randy Maw of Seattle along with and four grandchildren, Annabel, Savannah and Brianna Maw of San Mateo, Calif. and Erin Maw of Kettle Falls.
