Six Cheney high school students, all 14 and 15 years-old, were cited for being involved in a Fight Club, violating the city’s municipal code.

At least two Airway Heights city government officials, Mayor Dale Perry and Councilwoman Heather Tigen-Freeman, admitted they knew about reported time card violations of city employees before it was brought to their attention by city manager Lars Gare.

Cheney girls’ basketball coach Marty Jessett became the second person to resign from their job in recent months. Jessett told administrators he would take a postion in Spokane at University High, reportedly after he was passed up for the vacant boys’ job after Denny Humphries retired.

May 13,1993

Hakkon Industries plans for a new 40,000 square-foot facility on the west end of Cheney appeared on a fast track as the company figured it could be operational by fall.

When EWU’s executive vice president Elson Floyd takes a new position with the state of Washington, July 1, the vacancy will not be filled according to university president Dr. Marshall Drummond. The 37-year-old Floyd accepted a position with the Higher Education Coordinating Board.

The Cheney boys tennis team completed its season with a perfect 10-0 record with wins of 5-2 over Clarkston and 7-0 over West Valley in which Marc Dershem, Jeff Corlett, Tom Gresham all scored singles wins.

May 12, 1983

Cheney’s Centennial Celebration kicked off with aparade through downtown that drew dozens of entries from community floats to bands to politicians.

Should a new ordinance limiting the manner in which one can fence his or her yard be put in place? That was the question before the Cheney Planning Commission as presented by planner Tom Richardson.

Eastern Washington University’s school of business announced a major expansion plan that officials hoped would put the institution in a category of national leadership.

The Cheney High School girls and boys track teams finished their respective seasons with a combined record of 13-1. The girls finished a perfect 7-0, beating Medical Lake 122-8, as Pharelon Johnson of ML scored the lone victory for the Cards in the high jump.

May 10, 1973

State funding was received for a variety of highway projects to improve SR 902 from the freeway to Medical Lake, landscape the interchange at Four Lakes and improve safety measures at Betz and Four Lakes on SR 904.

A bond issue was set to be on the ballot in the fall to provide funding for improvements to Sunset Elementary and building a new junior high in Cheney. There was no dollar amount reported for the measure.

The ability to score second and third place finishes allowed Medical Lake to upset Cheney 79-65 in a Border League track meet. The biggest gains for the Cardinals came in distance events where Albert Thomas won his event (not specified) and pole vaulter Kirk Hashberger topped 12 feet for the win.

The Cheney School Board approved a preliminary general fund budget of $1.038 million for the upcoming 1963-64 school year, an amount about $44,000 higher than the previous year. The budget included $31,801 for administrative salaries, $55,000 for district principals and $580,000 for teachers.

Two Amber youths, Kay Cordill and Clark Jordan, took top honors in the 17th annual Youth Stock Preview Show held in Cheney.

Dave Nicol pitched and batted Cheney to a 4-2 Northeast A League baseball victory over Newport. Nicol struck out 13, had a pair of hits and two RBIs for coach Don Monson’s Blackhawks.
