Santa makes his annual trip with Cheney firefighters

It’s time for that jolly old elf to once again make his way through the streets of Cheney.

The Cheney Fire Department, Firefighters Local 1919 and the Cheney Volunteer Firefighters Association are sponsoring their annual Candy Cane Hayride through Cheney Sunday, Dec. 16. Firefighters will be handing out candy canes, and coming along for the ride will be Santa himself, spreading seasonal cheer.

The ride begins at 4 p.m. and works its way towards the Salnave area (see map). Around 6 p.m. the ride heads for the north end of Cheney, and will this year stop in the Safeway shopping complex so that people who live outside the city limits or missed Santa and his entourage in town can catch up and have some fun.

For the fourth straight year the firefighters will also be collecting food for the Cheney Food Bank. Last year the community provided a tremendous response to the effort, however there is no requirement to donate. According to a news release, the ride is intended for residents to have some fun, spread seasonal cheer and get “kids a chance to see Santa and thank the community for its support throughout the years, especially for the renewal of the EMS levy.
