Glen Dean to depart

FROM STAFF AND NEWS SERVICES REPORTS

The on again, off again saga of whether Glen Dean will play for new Eastern Washington University basketball coach Jim Hayford suddenly took its final turn on May 11 when Dean announced he would transfer to the University of Utah.

After previously informing a new coaching staff he was going to remain at Eastern Dean notified Hayford that he has changed his mind and was leaving.

“I was certainly surprised,” Hayford said. “Since I was hired as head coach, he had made recent commitments to our program and his teammates to remain at Eastern.”

Dean started 51 of the 53 games he played the past two seasons as an Eagle, averaging 12.7 points and 4.3 assists per game. He was the Big Sky Conference Freshman of the Year in the 2009-10 season and was a second-team All-Big Sky Conference selection this past season.

“We are very excited to have Glen join our program,” Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak said in a statement. “He brings a tremendous amount of success at the Div. I level and will have a full year to sit out while learning our system and continuing to improve his individual skill.”
