The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association's District 7 has named Cheney High School Principal Tom Gresch the Administrator of the Year for 2010.

Principals from the Great Northern League schools nominated Gresch, and the board of directors for District 7 awarded him the annual honor.

District 7 director Russ Brown presented Gresch with the award. Brown recalled working with Gresch before he retired as Medical Lake High School principal.

“Tom is a worthy, worthy recipient,” Brown said. “He's just a class act.”

Brown said Gresch's ability to administer well is shown in the overall climate of Cheney High School, which is open and supportive for students and the variety of activities the school offers.

Gresch has been principal at CHS since 2004 and has 12 years of administrative experience.

Assistant principal and activities director Jim Missel knew him before they worked together. The two completed their masters' degrees together at Whitworth University.

“He's a great person,” Missel said. “He understands the importance of curriculum and the aspect of athletics and how to balance both of them.”
