Emilio B. Zamora

Emilio passed away on Oct. 15, 2009 peacefully after a lengthy illness. He was born on Jan. 14, 1932 to Fulgencia and Cristobal Zamora in Lincoln, N.M., seventh of 12 children. Emilio went to Captain High School where he graduated in 1951. He went to New Mexico State University (NMSU) where he received a degree in agriculture and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army in May 1955. While attending college he met Lupe Storey and they were married in December 1955. Emilio served 23 years in the Army, most of them as an aviator. He retired in 1978 after four years at Eastern Washington University as head of the Army ROTC program. In 1980, he began his second career providing transportation services for the elderly and disabled at the YMCA in Spokane. He was responsible for the development of this program from four vans to a fleet of vans after it became part of Spokane Transit. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Lupe; children, Francisco and Cathleen Zamora, Patricio Zamora, Claudia and Kim Crosby, Roberto and Debbie Zamora, and Amelia and Dean Stier; beloved grandchildren, Dao, Chloe, Celeste and Elizabeth. Lupe and family would like to thank the staff at North Central Nursing Home and especially the adult home, Seniors in Motion in Four Lakes, for their compassion and care. Thank You Tammy, Anna, Ann and Francine. Memorial service will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 460 N. Fifth St., Cheney, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009. Remembrances, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Cheney Food Bank or St. Rose Knights of Columbus High School Scholarship Fund.
