    The Cheney High girls swim team wrapped up the league portion of their schedule last Saturday with a loss at home to perennial power Pullman, 107-65, and now turn their attention to district competition this weekend. The Blackhawks won five of 11 events against the Greyhounds. Makenzie Norman captured first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.48 seconds, a season best, and was first in the 100 free in 55.56.     Kathy Davis from Mead, Wash. claimed the top spot in Week 4 of the of the 2016 Cheney Free Press football contest, earning a $50 merchant’s gift certificate, missing three games.     The Cheney High football team wrapped up their 2016 campaign with a 15-0 loss to Great Northern League leading Pullman last Friday, Oct. 21 in what Blackhawks head coach Bobby Byrd called “one of the muddiest games I’ve been a part of.” The Greyhounds took the lead in the first quarter on Jake Cillay’s 6-yard scoring pass to Cameron Lang.     Donald W. McMillan, 92, passed away at his home near Cheney on Oct. 21, 2016 with his wife of 69 years by his side. Don was born to Ernest and Myrtle McMillan near Cheney on Aug. 26, 1924 and lived his entire life in the Cheney area. Don was involved in farming, ranching and dairying. After owning his own dairy, he managed the state dairy at Medical Lake, sold feed for Moorman's, worked at Cheney Grain Growers and retired as the field representative for Fox Milling.
