    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated Oct 13, 2016

On a day when most observers figured that Cooper Kupp would once again grab the headlines, as he deservedly does with regularity, Shaq Hill beat him to the ink. Where Kupp has ruled the record books almost since first donning No. 10 in 2013, Hill, a senior from Stockton, Calif. put himself into that conversation -albeit maybe only briefly - with his four touchdown catches that propelled Eastern Washington University to yet another come-from-behind win, 49-31 over Northern...

It was the sixth loss in as many games this season for the Cardinals. Medical Lake (0-4 NEA, 0-6 overall) was held to a minus 2 yards of total offense and just one first down. “We didn’t play with any emotion or effort,” head coach Mo Owen said. “We just need to learn what it takes to compete.” After a s...

  • Medical Lake soccer splits with Newport, Riverside

    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated Oct 13, 2016

Medical Lake head soccer coach Zane Higgins insists that the Northeast A League is tough from top to bottom. And following last week’s split in league play, a 6-2 win at home over Newport, and a 3-2 shootout loss at Riverside, there’s plenty of evidence with which to back that up. “Every team in this league is tough and they were playing us tough in the first half,” Higgins said. In fact the Grizzlies, who reside in the basement of the Northeast A League (0-8, 0-9 overall), ma...

    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated Oct 13, 2016

In their 25-22, 25-8, 25-8 loss to Newport (5-5 NEA, 6-5 overall), the Cardinals showed some life in the first set, but wilted after that. “In practice, we have been working on starting fast and it showed in this match,” head coach Todd Harr said. “We came out firing and played well throughout the first set.” In the secon...

  • New faces earn roles in Medical Lake cross country win

    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated Oct 13, 2016

Medical Lake had the opportunity to make hay in the fading sunshine during last Wednesday’s Northeast A League cross country meet with a thin roster of runners from Newport. But not wanting to run all over an undermanned team, Cardinals’ head coach Gene Blankenship found this race to be the perfect time to offer both rewards and rest to some of his runners. The state’s No. 6 ranked 1A team, Medical Lake, still rolled to a 15-47 win in the boys’ race and the girls also earned...

  • Lady Blackhawks fall 3-2 to West Valley at home

    AL STOVER, Staff Reporter|Updated Oct 13, 2016

Cheney High girls’ soccer coach Nels Radtke predicted that the Oct. 3 Great Northern League rematch between his team and West Valley would be different than the first encounter (Sept. 15) where they shutout the Eagles, 3-0 — and he was right. The Lady Blackhawks lost to West Valley at home, 3-2. “We just didn’t show up to play that day,” Radtke said. “From the start, we weren’t really in it.
