  • Lakeside strikes fast, often, in 48-12 win over Medical Lake

    PAUL DELANEY|Updated Oct 9, 2014

Medical Lake head football coach Wes Hobbs knew going into their game with Lakeside last Friday night in Suncrest that they had to make it a game of keep away. The Cardinals did a pretty good job of that but still it took just nine minutes for the undefeated Eagles, 3-0 in Northeast A League play, 5-0 overall, en route to a 48-12 victory. Medical Lake lost for a fourth straight week and is now 0-3 in the NEA and 1-4 overall as they prepare to host Newport (0-3, 1-4) in their...

  • Goal scoring returns for ML soccer

    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated Oct 9, 2014

One streak continued but another ended for Medical Lake soccer last week in Northeast A League play. While their losing streak reached six following losses of 5-0 to Lakeside (4-1, 4-3) and 5-2 to Riverside (3-2, 4-3), the goal scoring drought that spanned five contests ended thanks to Makayla Geiger. The freshman Geiger got both goals for the Cardinals and initially drew her team within a goal on two different occasions. "We played right with them, competed right to the...

  • Eagles try to keep 'Sky streak alive

    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated Oct 9, 2014

The last time the Eastern Washington Eagles took the long journey to Cedar City, Utah was October 2012 and they sat atop the Football Championship Subdivision polls. Eastern emerged on the short end of s 30-27 score after a field goal in the final minute of play was the difference. • Four and counting - Blackhawks down Knights 29-14

    John McCallum, Editor|Updated Oct 9, 2014

Start slow — big second quarter — defensive stops — late score. Those nine words have proven to be the winning formula for the Cheney High School football team the past two games, none bigger than last Friday’s 29-14 win in the Blackhawks Great Northern League opener at East Valley. In the shortest of Cheney’s five straight road trips to begin the season, the Blackhawks opened up a close game with 22 points in the second quarter. Cheney capped a drive highlighted by a Josh Martin to Kennan Williams 36-yard pass with a 3-...

  • Hoping not to miss a beat in Adams' absence

    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated Oct 9, 2014

In typical unassuming Vernon Adams fashion, when he stepped up to face multiple microphones last Saturday following Eastern Washington’s 56-53 football escape against Idaho State, Adams deflected praise to his teammates at becoming the Big Sky Conference’s all-time leader in touchdown passes. All the time while rocking back and forth on a sore foot that he brushed off to having “rolled my ankle or something.” The All-American, and frontrunner for the 2014 Walter Peyton...

  • Hobbled Adams leads Eagles over Bengals

    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated Oct 9, 2014

Vernon Adams likened last Saturday's Big Sky Conference football game to a boxing match, one that went the entire 10 rounds. Because that's what it took, virtually the entire 60 minutes for Eastern Washington to finally put the Idaho State Bengals on the mat. The Eagles won a 56-53 shootout at Roos Field witnessed by 11,256 - the third largest crowd ever and the biggest non-Montana game audience. "Idaho State came out firing, it was a boxing match," Adams said. The limping...

"I could hear my team screaming," Norman said. "I think they were more excited for...
