    The Cheney 17U Summerhawks baseball team went 0-2 in a doubleheader against the Asotin County Blues, June 5. The first game was an 11-1 loss in five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule followed by a 9-1 defeat. In game one, the Blues’ defense only allowed the Summerhawks one hit.     With five players on its 2016-17 roster from Australia, the Eastern Washington University men's basketball program will tour the country in August. The Eagles will play a total of 8-10 games in the cities of Sydney, Melbourne and Cairns.     The world lost another icon last weekend. I had just gotten home from the Cheney High School commencement ceremony when I heard that former three-time heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali, born Cassius Clay, passed away at 74 years old. According to reports, his death was attributed to septic shock. Ali’s daughter, Hana Ali, said his heart continued to beat for 30 minutes after his brain stopped functioning.     Medical Lake High School has made hiring decisions for two major sports, selecting Mo Owen, formerly a Lakeside High School assistant to be new head football coach and Noel Hachtel, the C-squad coach the previous two seasons as the new boys' head varsity basketball coach.
