  • Cardinals collect share of state track berths

    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated May 24, 2018

Medical Lake track team members did pretty much what their head coach thought might happen when it came to qualifying for this week's 1A state championships at Eastern Washington University's Roos Field, May24–26. Going into last week's District 7 championships at Riverside High School, Gene Blankenship thought his sprinters, including the relay team, plus distance runners and a pair of female field event athletes could punch their tickets to state. But when the dust - and t...

  • Big turnout for ML Legion program means two teams

    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated May 24, 2018

The way Medical Lake’s AA American Legion baseball coach Austin Sharp figures, part of the tidal wave turnout that greeted he and his coaches is a desire by some of those players to not repeat in 2019 what happened in 2018. In his first year at the helm, Sharp’s Northeast A League Cardinals finished 3-16. But the nine juniors who endured such a long season want none of that as seniors and playing summer baseball is part of the solution. “Man, we had a ton of kids tryou...

  • The Fairways continues to wage its water wars

    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated May 24, 2018

One of the guiding idioms of World War II was, “Loose lips sink ships.” It spoke to the danger of unguarded talk and what it could cost in terms of lives and the war effort. Not sure if there’s anything similar in today’s lexicon, but how’s this: flapping gums could founder The Fairways? In a recent meeting of the Medical Lake City Council, the claim was made in the public forum portion that “The Fairways would probably close because of that lawsuit on water.” While that wa...

Cheney High boys track and field head coach Derek Slaughter felt the Blackhawks that had qualified for last Friday's regional meet were all in a good position to advance to state -and he was pretty close to correct. Eight of the nine Blackhawks competing in individual events advanced out of competition in Ephrata to this weekend's 2A state meet at Mt. Tahoma High School in Lakewood.
