    Cheney High’s Williams commits to EWU for football Cheney High School senior Keenan Williams has made an oral commitment to Eastern Washington University to play football for the three-time defending Big Sky Conference champion Eagles. The 6-foot-3-inch, 262 pound Blackhawk is a three-time All-Great Northern League first-team selection on defense at defensive end, and three-time All-GNL second-team selection on offense as a tight end.     Getting back to basics paid off for the Medical Lake girl’s basketball team last week as the Cardinals ended a five-game losing streak with a 49-42 nonleague victory at Omak last Saturday, Jan. 24.     The Cheney High boys’ swim team enjoyed home field advantage for the first time this season with a 105-20 win over Prosser Jan. 24. Grandview was scheduled to compete at the meet, but they withdrew before the competition. Trevor Babcock finished first in the 100-yard freestyle in 51.31 seconds.     Dr. Boyd Archer Hardesty, of Rosalia, Wash., died Jan. 22, 2015 from injuries sustained in a fall. He was 82. Boyd was born May 15, 1932 in Cheney to parents Bonner and Mildred Hardesty. He was raised in Rosalia where he met and fell in love with his wife Willa Mae, graduating from Rosalia High School. In 1952, they married in Spokane.
